Following the devastating earthquake in January 2010 hundreds of thousands of people were left homeless and entire areas of the urban residential and commercial streets were destroyed. David and Deborah O'Malley with Deanie Nyman traveled to Haiti to establish relations with suppliers and sources of materials. The concept was to use existing ISO certified steel shipping containers from the storage yards adjacent to the port of Port au Prince as building blocks for housing and to replace the ubiquitous two story buildings along the commercial streets using stacked containers.
